Raimbau d'Aurenga
From Cunnan
Raimbau d'Aurenga (fl. 1144-1173) is the first known troubadour to have come from Provence proper. He was Lord of Orange and Courthézon. Whilst never being financially wealthy for his position, he nevertheless managed to maintain a court, to which he attracted many other troubadours such as Marcabru. He is also said to have attracted the love of the Comtessa de Dia.
He had a high quality education as evidenced by his works, which probably explained his attraction to trobar clus. In one famous tenso called Ara.m platz, Giraut de Borneill, he debates with Guiraut de Bornelh the virtue of trobar clus as opposed to trobar leu.
Of the forty songs of his that survive, only one is accompanied by a melody.
