Double Branle
From Cunnan
The branle Double is found in Orchesography by Thoinot Arbeau. It is one of the quatre branles.

Steps Used
- Double left (DL)
- Double right (DR)
Choreography
As with most branles, this dance is performed in a line of people holding hands or (if enough people are present) a circle. It is not necessary for the dancers to be paired into partners.
This is one of the easiest dances in the world.
Verse
DL DR Repeat, always doing smaller steps to R than to L
Variations
In place of the last two steps of the double right, one may do three quick kicks: pied en l'air gauche, pied en l'air droit, pied en l'air gauche. This is a division or decoupement. Agile dancers also did other divisions, for which Arbeau gave no instructions, in this branle.
